What is MATmatics?
Welcome to MATmatics! Tracie Anthony, a math specialist within the Grande Prairie School District, developed a comprehensive intervention program to support students experiencing mathematical difficulties. This intervention is a 6- to 8-week, small-group program that is focused on improving students’ foundational numeracy skills (e.g., number line estimation, arithmetic).
The intervention is designed around research on pedagogy and math cognition. Notably, multiple facets of the intervention’s design were considered, such as the program’s instructional approach, delivery, and lesson content. The intervention is oriented to deliver lessons under direct instruction to a small number (under 4) of students at a similar level of skill. The lesson content within the intervention program was centered around subdomains of number knowledge, relations, and operations.
